UPDATE #21: Dungeoneering Actual Play, Nine Tombs Printed, and more!
about 3 years ago – Fri, Mar 17, 2023 at 08:48:16 AM

Hey there, got a big update full of news, so buckle up!

Dungeoneering Actual Play: The Heist at Mazar's Tower

First and foremost, I am thrilled to announce that we will be streaming the first-ever actual play of Dungeoneering on YouTube. As some of you may know, I am part of Tabletop Rocks, a group of friends who come together monthly to stream indie RPG one-shots. I'm excited to showcase Dungeoneering and demonstrate how it's played, and I hope you can join us!

Tabletop Rocks Presents an Actual Play Ran by Nate Whittington: "The Heist at Mazar's Tower". Played in Grinning Rat Publication's "Dungeonering"
Whoooo!

The adventure we'll be running is a slightly-abridged version of "Mazar's Tower", the starter dungeon you can find in the core rules of Dungeoneering. My hope is that this will serve as an excellent way to showcase how the game works, what makes it cool, and, of course, highlight the fun!

The stream is scheduled for March 28, and you can be notified when it goes live by heading over to our YouTube channel and hitting "Notify Me."

The Nine Tombs of Athal-Kar: Complete is Printed!

In other news, I'm so happy to finally say that The Nine Tombs of Athal-Kar: Complete is now printed, and I am currently packing all remaining backer's items to ship out over the weekend and into next week. It has been a long journey, and I couldn't be more thrilled with the final product.

I want to express my sincere gratitude for your patience and support throughout this project. I'm confident that you'll love how the book turned out and I can't wait for you to have it in your hands.

Here's a few images to give you an idea of what you're in for:

Hey everyone!

I'm happy to announce that the Nine Tombs of Athal-Kar: Complete PDF should be in your BackerKit account ready for download.

Reminder that this ONLY applies to those who backed at the Collector's Version tier or those who included Nine Tombs as an add-on through BackerKit.

For those who missed out, you'll be glad to know that Nine Tombs is also available on itch.io and, over the next few days, DriveThruRPG as well! Links to itch.io is below:

Files are sent to the printer and I should have them all wrapped up by the end of the week, ready for shipping over the weekend and into early next week. Everyone who is in the bolded group(s) above should be getting their packages shortly thereafter.

Thanks again for your patience these past few months as I got this out the door. I really appreciate everyone's kind words and willingness to help. You'll all have your books soon, promise.

For now, though, it's back to work!

UPDATE #19: Index & Print Updates!
about 3 years ago – Sat, Mar 04, 2023 at 01:07:47 PM

Hello everyone!

I hope you’re having a great weekend. Just wanted to reach out and update everyone with what’s going on with the index for Nine Tombs and the status of the printer.

First of all, why an index? Dungeoneering and Wanderers didn’t have indices at the time they were printed, but as I was working on Nine Tombs, I felt strongly an index was necessary. Despite Nine Tombs being a 56-ish page book, there’s a lot of information that references other parts of the book— information that would be really great to have locations of in one place.

So, what’s the problem? I’ve been working with the native InDesign indexing capabilities, but have run into literally hundreds of issues where things aren’t properly being caught (for example, adding ”kobold” as an index reference doesn’t include ”kobolds”, or ”Kobold”, or ”kobold’s”…

You can see how this would get VERY irritating.

I ended up going with, at the recommendation of a few other folks in the publishing world, to grab the IndexMatic script for InDesign. The price is a little steep ($140!) but after using it for a few days, it’s an immensely more useful tool.

So, all that to say, I’m expecting to be done with the index Monday or Tuesday of this week. Once that’s finished, the printer is ready to get this going and I should have printed copies ready for pickup as early as the end of the week. Then I will finally send out all orders that include Nine Tombs, including the Collector’s Version.

I want to sincerely apologize for the delay in delivery on the project. We’re roughly two months past the deadline, mostly due to some pretty crazy things that happened in the back end of 2022. But know that your books ARE coming and they’re coming very soon. I appreciate your patience, support, and kind words the past few months as I work out finalizing everything.

I’ll send a new update when the file is ready on BackerKit for download!

UPDATE #18: The Nine Tombs of Athal-Kar: Complete PDFs are out!
about 3 years ago – Mon, Feb 27, 2023 at 01:54:17 PM

Hello everyone!

It's my pleasure and great relief that the Nine Tombs Complete PDF is out and distributed via your email. You should get something from BackerKit saying so. Yay!

NOTE: There's a minor fix I need to do with the index (in that I need to regenerate it to work properly). So on Friday I will be reuploading the PDF file and redistributing it to your accounts then. Right now, the index is blank but everything else is there.

So for now, please enjoy! You've certainly earned it by this point.

Thanks for your patience,

- Nate W.

UPDATE #17: Further Delays, Expected Shipping of Colector's Version / Nine Tombs in January 2023
over 3 years ago – Mon, Dec 26, 2022 at 05:52:23 PM

Hey everyone,

Very quick update: Frustratingly, I have about a week or two left of work before delivery of the Nine Tombs PDFs. While this does land in the expected time-frame of the project (if you check your pledge, you'll see the Collector's Version expected ship date is January 2023), I really wanted to deliver these before the end of the year. Life unfortunately got in the way and I think I was a little overestimating my ability and time to get everything done.

Printer has Paper Stock!

The printer, thankfully, seems to have the paper stock I wanted and is holding it for the project so once the PDFs are finished I can send it over to them and should have them all printed the week after that. That basically puts us in mid-late January for shipping everything. Things can go quicker or slower depending on unforeseen factors, but this timeline seems agreeable to myself, my editor, and the printer.

Avoiding Potential Shipping Headaches

Last update I mentioned that I would send out the rewards I do have (Wanderers and Dungeoneering books, Character Sheet pads, pins, etc) but with the holidays and the nightmare that is holiday shipping, I wanted to take extra precaution and commit to shipping everything all at once to prevent lost packages, delays, etc. I know some folks who have had luck shipping in December, but I've also heard horror stories of pallets of things getting stuck in USPS limbo -- and with the last campaign's shipping fiasco I'd rather be safe rather than sorry.

---------

Sincere apologies to everyone for the delay. Know that I'm using basically all my available free time to get this out the door and into your hands. I hope once you see the Nine Tombs, it'll make sense why it took so long and, if I did my job correctly, how that extra time resulted in a book that is ultimately far more useful at the table than the previous version.

In the meantime, I'm interested to learn what books or games you got this holiday season. Comment below or feel free to shoot me a message with what you've been playing or what you're excited to play. It's okay if that isn't (or is!) Dungeoneering.
